My Favorite Power Breakfast


Breakfast is the most important meal of the day. We’ve all heard that, but how do you fuel yourself adequately when you lead a busy life? For me, mornings are my busiest time of the day. In between getting ready, taking care of my fur baby Leo, and rushing to whatever meetings I have or client calls, I needed something I could make ahead or make in a hurry, and preferably bring along with me.

Since breakfast is the most important meal of the day, shouldn’t it be loaded with nutrients that will keep me feeling full, energized, and focused? I have tried various “healthy” cereals, but they always left me starving a couple of hours later and battling loud, obnoxious stomach pangs. After getting into sugar, I realized that almost all cereals and granola’s are LOADED with sugar! No wonder I was starving soon after and dealing with lots of food cravings throughout the day! (Remember that 4g of sugar = 1 teaspoon of sugar and women shouldn’t have more than 20g of sugar a day).

Thinking of my other favorite breakfast items, I didn’t have time to cook omelets loaded with veggies, or make healthy waffles, etc. I turned to smoothies and juice. After trying various green juices and smoothies, I didn’t feel full hours later, as I’d hoped. Until….I found the perfect combination, thanks to Oh She Glows. Because I’m very cautious with my sugar intake, I have adapted my own version from her recipe, and it still delicious, filling, and full of nutrients I need to make it to lunch. The best part? It’s easy to make ahead and grab on my way out the door! Enjoy:

Morning Bliss (adapted from Oh She Glows)

  • 1 cup organic spinach
  • 1 banana (small-medium sized)
  • 1 tablespoon peanut butter (natural and organic)
  • 2 tablespoons protein power (I use hemp protein)
  • 1 tablespoon ground flax seed
  • 1 tablespoon hemp seed (optional)
  • dash of cinnamon
  • 1-2 tablespoons unsweetened coconut flakes
  • 1 cup almond milk
  • 4-5 ice cubes

Blend everything on high until smooth. You can also double this batch and have it ready  for your next day! It stores well in the refrigerator for up to two days.
